For Mrs Ogunbayo the headmistress of African Church Primary
School, Atola Nla via Onigbedu in Ewekoro Local Government area of
Ogun State and Mrs Olajide and another teacher Mrs Olajide in the
same school, Thursday 25th January 2018 remains an unforgettable
day in their lives as they faced the brutality in the hands of the Fulani
herdsmen that nearly snuffed life out of them.
According to Mrs Ogunbayo and Mrs Olajide who spoke with us since
Thursday morning that the news broke out said, they said "We are four
teachers in African Church Primary School, Atola Nla, but one of us
retired recently leaving the three of us, we used to gather together in
the morning to take a bike from Onigbedu to Atola Nla, a distance of
several kilometers everyday. That fateful morning, the third teacher
was unable to come to school because of health challenges, hence,
when Mrs Olajide eventually joined me, we mounted on our motor bike
as we proceeded to Atola Nla"
"Suddenly, midway to our school, two of the dreaded Fulani herdsmen,
unmasked, jumped on the road and started shouting 'money!
money!!'as I made to explain to them that we are teachers going to our
place of work, one of them grabbed our bags that contained all our
valuables and hit me with the club in his hand severally on my
forehead and I fell down.
"Mrs Olajide was also seriously dealt with, with club and matcheted
severally, our motor bike rider abandoned the bike and ran away while
the Fulani herdsmen ran after him but I guess the man was faster
than them.
"I was loosing blood heavily when I heard my teacher faintly saying
'mummy I am feeling dizzy.' I mustered all the strength in me and
started dragging her along the deserted road when suddenly I sighted
an okada man coming. On seeing us soaked with blood he refused to
assist stressing that if we die what will he say.
"I begged him passionately as a mother promising him to hold me
responsible in case of anything, at last he agreed to assist us to
Onigbedu village Health Center, by this time, Mrs Olajide was almost
passing out."
Mrs Ogunbayo further stated that, she was surprised when she saw
that the Doctor at the Health Center was her former student who
instantly recognized her and sprang into action by providing basic first
aid to stabilise them.
TRENDING METRO later gathered that, it took the intervention of the
state Governor Ibikunle Amosun that led to the transfer of the two
teachers to an undisclosed health center for adequate treatment.
"As a result of the publicity made, the state Governor, His Excellency
Ibikunle Amosun CON FCA got alerted and demanded that the two
teachers should be moved to an undisclosed health institution where
adequate health care will be provided. As at the time of this report this
evening (Friday), the two teachers are stable and recovering speedily.
"Dear Comrades and friends, the case of the dastardly act of these
Fulani herdsmen is becoming worrisome, share your thoughts with
us."
