probably decide which toy to play with first . Otherwise , life was
pretty and simple back then .
Not so for five - year - old Lina Medina , a little Peruvian girl who , in
1939 , gave birth to a baby boy , becoming the world ’ s youngest
mother on record , according to The Sun . How did it happen ?
The Sun reports that when little Medina ’ s abdomen began growing
at age five and she complained of stomach pains , doctors thought
she had a large tumor . But tests revealed that she was actually
seven months pregnant , and soon after , she had her son , Gerardo on
May 14 , 1939 — a completely healthy, 2 . 7 kg baby boy .
Medina had to give birth via Caesarean , because her pelvis was too
small for a natural birth .
Doctors discovered that Medina ’ s sexual organs were completely
mature , and diagnosed her with a condition called precocious
puberty .
So who would impregnate a five - year - old ? Police arrested Medina ’ s
father because they believed he committed incest , but released him
after they couldn’ t find evidence .
To this day, Medina — who is still alive at 85 — has never revealed the
true identity of Gerardo ’ s father , or even talked about giving birth at
age five .
As for the boy , he grew up thinking Medina was his sister rather than
his mother , but learned the truth when he was 10 years old . He died
in 1979 at age 40 from a bone disease .
