Many thanks for the piece by Anthony Kila on the above subject matter . Curiously , many Ogun indigenes furiously remained silent because no elder raised an eyebrow while the project was “ commissioned ”. Kila ’ s contribution on this is thus well - appreciated.
But , my questions are :
1 . How many people into business or civil servants can afford to own a plot of land in that estate ? The roads within the estate have been tarred for reptiles and other wild animals . Bear in mind that taxpayers’ money were wasted building the OPIC advantage duplexes which are not affordable to civil servants whose salaries have not been paid for some months . How does this project affect positively the lives of Nigerians in Ogun State ? This is called misappropriation of taxpayers ’ money .
2 . Shouldn ’ t the money spent on that estate be invested in Agbara ? The Agbara - Lusada road , a major road used for conveying finished or semi - finished goods to other parts of the country , is in a deplorable state . The money spent on the Buhari estate could have been better invested to fix the road in anticipation of the Federal Government refund on the same .
Governor Ibikunle Amosun has done a lot of novel projects to beautify Abeokuta, no doubt . Roads are being built. But I will like him to know that a government that does not provide land and affordable housing to indigenes has not done well . It is the titles of such properties that can generate economic activities via access to bank loans for business and redistribution of income. A lot of Ogun State indigenes resident in Lagos would tell you for free that they do not intend to go back home in a hurry given the highlighted nature of poverty in Ogun State , one of the top 10 highest IGR earning states in Nigeria .
I do not intend to demean the government and good people of Ogun State . But the truth must be told that Buhari would appreciate a functional project targeted at the masses more .
Omo Ogun , iseya !
